Background

Heartland School of Omaha serves students with unique learning and developmental needs. In a setting like this, lighting plays a much bigger role than simple visibility. Brightness levels, consistency, and transitions can all influence comfort and focus. 

Classrooms are designed to feel safe and supportive. Sudden changes in lighting or overly harsh illumination can create distractions. The school needed a system that keeps lighting steady, adaptable, and easy for teachers to manage throughout the day.

Challenges:

Lighting in a special education school requires extra care. Classrooms are used for a range of activities including therapy sessions, individual instruction, and group learning. Each activity benefits from different light levels. 

The system also needed to remain predictable. Teachers should feel confident that lights respond appropriately without unexpected changes. At the same time, common areas such as hallways and support rooms needed automation to avoid lights being left on unnecessarily.

Solutions

Radiar AF10 – 2 channel AC powered 0 to 10V fixture controller with inbuilt relay 
Radiar AF10 allowed flexible dimming in classrooms where different brightness levels were needed throughout the day. Its dual channel control supported both general lighting and task lighting without complicated setups. 

PSC-WCM-450-BLE-WS – Wireless 0 to 10V single channel dimming AC powered room controller 
These room controllers provided dependable lighting control for individual classrooms and therapy spaces. Teachers experienced consistent performance without needing to manage multiple switches.

PSC-DM-I-WS-100-BLE-WS – Wireless motion sensor dimmer wall switch 
This simple wall switch offered an intuitive way for staff to adjust lighting. With integrated motion sensing and dimming, it allowed teachers to make quick changes during lessons without interrupting student focus. 

PSC-DM-WS-100-BLE-WS – 1-Button Bluetooth Mesh Wall Controller 
This compact wall controller provided a simple and reliable way to trigger lighting scenes within classrooms and shared areas. With Bluetooth Mesh communication, it allowed staff to activate preset lighting levels instantly. Its straightforward one-button design ensured ease of use, which is especially important in a structured learning environment where consistency and simplicity matter. 

Cyrus AP – AC powered wireless PIR motion and light sensor with low bay lens 
Installed with surface mounts and low bay lens accessories, Cyrus AP sensors helped automate lighting in hallways and support rooms. Lights turned on when spaces were in use and turned off when vacant, without sudden brightness shifts. 

Enor E – Gateway with RTC, Ethernet and astronomical clock 
Enor E connected the lighting ecosystem and ensured time accuracy and scheduling stability. Its real time clock maintained reliable operation even during power interruptions, and remote access simplified overall system management.

Result

Lighting at Heartland School of Omaha now supports the learning environment in a quiet and dependable way. Classrooms maintain comfortable brightness levels, and teachers have immediate control when adjustments are needed. Shared areas operate automatically without requiring staff attention.
