Luminaire-Level Control: The Smartest Choice for Modern Lighting

Luminaire Level Lighting Control_Lumos controls

Imagine a lighting system that doesn’t just turn on or off but responds intelligently to its surroundings—adjusting brightness based on the time of day, sensing when a room is empty, and conserving energy effortlessly.

This is the essence of Luminaire Level Lighting Control (LLLC), where each fixture acts as a smart, independent light source, dynamically adapting to its environment. As we advance our mission of creating intelligent spaces, LLLC accelerates this vision by lowering energy costs, enhancing comfort, and crafting spaces that naturally respond to their surroundings—an essential step for any building focused on sustainability and modern design.

What is Luminaire-Level Lighting Control?

At its core, LLLC equips each lighting fixture, or luminaire, with sensors and controls. This setup allows each fixture to operate independently while still connecting to a broader system, making it possible to tailor lighting to specific needs. With LLLC, every fixture becomes a “smart” light, adjusting brightness and other settings based on environmental changes, occupancy, or preset schedules. It’s a lighting solution designed to be adaptive, flexible, and highly responsive to building usage patterns.

How LLLC Benefits Modern Spaces

With an LLLC setup, spaces enjoy a tailored lighting experience. Traditional centralized lighting controls have limitations: they can be more complex to install and require extensive wiring. In contrast, luminaire-level controls reduce installation time, as each fixture is pre-equipped to communicate wirelessly, minimizing the need for complex wiring.

This shift in control allows LLLC to provide several key benefits:

  1. Enhanced Energy Savings: LLLC systems are equipped with occupancy and daylight sensors, automatically adjusting lighting based on the presence of people and natural light levels. This precision significantly reduces unnecessary energy consumption.
  1. Reduced Installation Costs: With LLLC, the need for extra wiring and complex configurations is minimized, saving contractors both time and cost during installation.
  1. Data-Driven Insights: LLLC systems from Lumos Controls provide comprehensive reports that allow you to monitor the performance of your lighting network. With actionable insights, facilities managers can make informed decisions to continually improve and optimize lighting efficiency and effectiveness across all spaces.
  1. Scalability and Flexibility: Because each fixture is independently controlled, LLLC systems offer scalability and flexibility, making it easy to reconfigure lighting settings without affecting the entire system. This is especially valuable in dynamic spaces where usage patterns frequently change.
  1. Access to Rebates and Incentives: Many U.S. utility companies and state programs, including initiatives from California’s Energy Commission and New York’s NYSERDA, offer rebates for Luminaire-Level Lighting Controls (LLLC), making them an affordable choice. LLLC installations also support compliance with IECC and ASHRAE standards, aligning with cost savings and sustainability goals.

How LLLC Benefits Modern Spaces

At Lumos Controls, we offer a comprehensive set of solutions to bring the benefits of LLLC into any space seamlessly. Our lineup of controllers and sensors, each tailored for luminaire-level control, ensures a smooth integration for a smarter and more adaptive lighting experience. Let’s explore our key products designed for LLLC.

  • Cyrus F – PIR Motion & Light Sensor

Our Cyrus F sensor is the perfect addition to any LLLC system. Equipped with occupancy and daylight sensors, Cyrus F ensures that each fixture adjusts based on real-time environmental feedback. In a space with multiple zones and usage patterns, this sensor provides the adaptability that LLLC systems demand, adjusting brightness and turning lights on or off based on movement and ambient light levels.

  • Radiar ZP10 – 0-10V Zhaga Controller with PIR motion and Daylight sensing

Radiar ZP10 is a Zhaga Book 18 controller designed to support Luminaire-Level Lighting Control (LLLC) in outdoor and industrial environments. With integrated PIR motion sensing and daylight sensing, ZP10 enables each luminaire to operate intelligently based on real-time occupancy and ambient light conditions. Its precision dimming capabilities help reduce energy consumption while maintaining optimal illumination, and the IP65-rated enclosure ensures reliable performance in demanding conditions. As part of an LLLC system, Radiar ZP10 enhances efficiency, adaptability, and control by allowing fixtures to respond independently while remaining connected within a smart lighting network.

The PSC-BL-I-FM-DC0-BLE-WS sensor is another high-performance option for LLLC. Its compact design allows it to be integrated seamlessly within fixtures while delivering precise occupancy detection. Ideal for spaces where fixture aesthetics matter, this sensor provides effective coverage without compromising on style.

  • Radiar AF10 – 2 Channel AC Powered 0-10V Fixture Controller

Radiar AF10 is a powerful fixture controller designed to enable dimming and switching at the luminaire level through its 0–10V control input. This capability allows Radiar AF10 to seamlessly integrate with occupancy and daylight sensors, enabling each fixture to respond independently to real-time environmental conditions. By providing precise control over brightness and energy use at the individual fixture level, Radiar AF10 supports true Luminaire-Level Lighting Control (LLLC) ensuring lights operate only when and where needed, while improving efficiency, comfort, and overall system performance.

Radiar AFD1/4 is a DALI-based luminaire-level lighting controller designed for projects that require DALI compatibility within an LLLC architecture. The integrated 12 VDC auxiliary output allows direct powering of sensors, enabling occupancy- and daylight-based control at the luminaire level. By combining independent fixture control with seamless integration into centralized DALI management systems, Radiar AFD1/4 offers the flexibility to implement LLLC while retaining the benefits of a DALI-enabled lighting network.
